National Facilities Management Company

Overview

A private equity owned Facilities Management business was already very proactive on sustainability issues. They felt their efforts were fragmented and difficult to communicate to internal and external stakeholders. Increasingly tenders were asking for evidence of their sustainability progression, so they chose Sustainable X to support them to create a clear strategy, plan and associated metrics.

Process

We worked closely with the divisional directors to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy that would embed sustainability across all business units. After absorbing all the policies, processes and data already on deck we held a series of workshops to:

  • Prioritise impact areas.
  • Agree impact measurement strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for positive impact.
  • Create targets and initiatives to achieve them.

All the outputs were consolidated into an action plan. Over the next 3 months a sustainability KPI deck was developed, and the strategy and plan were published to internal and external stakeholders across each business unit.

Outcome

The outputs were used extensively to support major tender bids and also the sale of the business to new owners. The company continues to develop its KPI deck and now has historic data that evidences their commitment and progress. They routinely achieve top scores in the sustainability elements of tender submissions due to their authentic, data backed progress and plans.
