Background
A rapidly growing IT provider with a young staff demographic has a forward-thinking owner who believes in the importance of sustainability. They had set up a sustainability team, but they didn’t know where to start and how to measure progress. After researching different support options, they chose Sustainable X to accelerate their progress.
Business Case
The initial driver was the ethics of the owner, however they quickly realised that being genuinely sustainable would help attract the best talent in a competitive recruiting space. In some sectors sustainability credentials are important to their customers, and they also identified product and market development potential.
Process
The leadership team and sustainability leads attended a half day accelerator workshop. During the workshop we refined the business case and did an initial assessment of their significant impacts against the UN Sustainability Goals as a framework.
Having identified the impact areas, the team then drilled into the positive work they were already doing, and where there was potential to do more. Sustainable X pulled the outputs together and provided an analysis report with recommended priorities and next steps. In a series of short follow up sessions this was consolidated into a resourced action plan and a communications framework to engage with stakeholders.
Outcomes
They have since grown significantly as a business and are authentically progressing and sharing their sustainability journey. Employee wellbeing is a major impact they focus on, and they have implemented numerous initiatives, including a permanent 4-day working week following a successful pilot period. They have now achieved BCorp status, which they attribute in part to the work we did with them to accelerate their progress towards sustainability. They are proud of their accomplishments and continue to make progress towards a sustainable future.
